As state health officials have outlined in their latest executive order, starting April 2 through May 24, all athletes ages 13-19 are required to get a weekly Covid-19 test. The order may be extended or rescinded after May 24.
Please see below for an overview of the order, testing options and data collection information.
Overview:
Testing period: April 2-May 24.
After May 24, the order may be rescinded or extended.
All athletes 13 years and older must test once a week.
According to MSYSA, if an athlete is younger than 13 but plays with a majority of athletes who are 13, that player is not required to test.
As a club, we recommend testing the day of or the day before your first training for each week.
If a player receives a positive test result, they are to notify their coach and follow the club protocols for a safe return to play.
Test reporting will be done through an electronic questionnaire that parents will submit weekly after testing (see more information below). All questionnaires must be submitted by the players parent no later than 3pm on the first day of the player’s training for that week!
The testing questionnaire link will be sent out separately at a later date.
If a player is tested for a different reason (e.g. school sport/activity, etc.), that test may be used, however the questionnaire still must be completed for the player.
Players who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past three months still must test weekly to participate, per MSYSA.
Athletes ages 13-19 who do not participate in weekly testing may not participate in any affiliated activities including non-contact or contact, per MSYSA.
Testing Options:
Players may be tested at any health organization administering Covid-19 tests. The options below are clinics we have partnered with and/or public testing options.
Testing is provided through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), in a partnership with the Oakland County Health Division (OCHD). Rochester Community Schools is the host site.
Honu Management Group will provide diagnostic testing through an MDHHS contract.
Any community member may participate in the testing program, and there are no out-of-pocket expenses.
Individuals will remain in their car for the duration of the testing.
Schedule by appointment only, day before or day of
All interactions are done at car-side
Test Reporting: To participate in games and practices, all players are required to test weekly and parents submit those results to the club after each test. The questionnaire will not ask you to upload your test, but you should keep it for 10 days per MSYSA recommendation. The questionnaire will include the following information:
Name of the player
Team
Date of test and place the test was administered
Test result
Electronic signature confirms all information on the questionnaire is true and accurate
Coaches will be made aware of any players who have tested positive or choose to not participate in the weekly testing. Players who do not fill out the questionnaire or do not choose to test will not be permitted to participate in training or games per MSYSA.
Reporting to Coaches: Coaches will receive an email from the Designated Covid Testing Reporter (DCTR) between 3pm and 4pm on the day of the first training of the week. The player must submit their results prior to 3pm on the day of their first training of the week so they can be included in the report. If a player is not included in the report, that player cannot participate until they submit the questionnaire and show a screenshot of the submitted questionnaire to their coach.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation. The RSC Team
